Cragganmore Port Wood Finish Distillers Edition 2008 (Bottled 2020)

Cragganmore Port Wood Finish Distillers Edition 2008 (Bottled 2020)

Introduction

Cragganmore's distiller's edition from 2020 is a Port wood finished whisky, distilled in 2008 and finished for months in port casks to provide some flavouring. Expecting some fruit notes to have come from the port cask, and lightly peat that Cragganmore is known for.

On the Nose

Initially sweet on the nose, with Haribo sweets, vanilla, and honey. The more savoury notes come in the form of roasted nuts, and very light smoke.

On the palate

A nutty start, mostly walnut, with a waxy orange and wood bitterness, a slightly acidic note, and a watery mouthfeel. The smokiness is very light and doesn't dominate at all.

Conclusion

This is a very delicate dram, both on the nose, and to taste. There are no big 'punchy' notes, but what you can find are well balanced and make a very enjoyable, simple dram.
